ETIC LAB goes big in the neighborhood!

During an intense week of creation, first-year students from ETIC’s International Certifications took part in another edition of ETIC LAB, an exercise designed to bring together different creative areas and challenge participants to develop collaborative projects within a limited timeframe.

Organized into multidisciplinary teams — Photography, Film and Television, Sound, Animation and Videogames, Graphic Design, Multimedia, Music and Fashion — the students were invited to interpret the theme “The Neighborhood.” The starting point was the observation of the area surrounding the school, particularly places such as Cais do Sodré, Santos and Santa Catarina, neighborhoods known for their cultural diversity and vibrant urban life.

After an initial briefing led by coordinators Pedro Senna Nunes and Joana Areal, the groups set out to explore the streets around them, gather references and transform those experiences into visual and sound narratives. The process resulted in audiovisual projects that demonstrated creativity, collaboration and a thoughtful perspective on the urban context.

The projects were evaluated by a jury composed of Luísa Silva Rodrigues, Culture Councillor at the Misericórdia Parish Council, Rute Mendes, cultural advisor at the Lisbon City Council, and Catarina Vasconcelos, multidisciplinary artist. After reviewing and discussing the works, the three jurors unanimously selected Group 1, with the project “O Que os Vossos Olhos Veem?”, as the winner.

Although only one team received the final prize — tickets to a festival partnered with ETIC and a dinner — the jury agreed that the level of commitment, creativity and cooperation demonstrated by all participants highlighted the potential of this new generation of creatives. More than a competition, ETIC LAB once again proved to be a space for experimentation where different disciplines meet and teamwork becomes essential to bring ideas to life.
